Lucky Devil Review

Author: Cat Miller
Series: A Lucky Devil (Book 1)
Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Self – Published
Release Date: Dec 8 2015
Edition/Formats: eBook

ABOUT THE BOOK

In Sin City, Luc Christianson is the king of all things wicked. He’s a ruthless hotel and casino owner with an aversion to gamblers who risk more than they can afford to lose. His members only gambling and entertainment club caters to wealthy and occasionally careless Vegas regulars. In Luc's world there's no pity for the reckless when it’s time to up the ante.

Everly Parker is risking it all to save her family from ruin. Her father, an alcoholic with a gambling addiction, wagers the family cattle ranch on a game of cards and loses. It’s up to Everly to find a way to get back her family’s legacy.

Everly’s confrontation with the striking illegal club owner who now owns the ranch goes from bad to worse when she dares him to play her for the ranch. Winner takes all. She makes the tragic mistake of betting the one thing she can’t afford to lose. Herself.

Criminals. High stakes gambling. A bit of mystery, hot and steamy scenes, and romance. Now this is my kind of book to read. Very intriguing. I stayed up late reading this. It was worth it!!

So Everly Parker was kept in the dark about her fathers gambling debt until it was too late. Her brother Mills is stressed about the whole thing but can't leave the ranch this time of year to deal with it all. So it's up to Everly to try and save the family's future.

She meets Luc, Lucifer Christianson, the "criminal mobster" who preys on defenseless people. The "bad guy" who runs a Hotel/Casino that has some shady business on the side. She thinks she has him pegged. Or does she? Being kind of nosey she starts poking around to find out more about the guy who's "ruined" her family's future. Turns out there's a bit more to him than that...

I am totally crushing on Luc myself here. He's smart and sexy and a business genius. I'd definitely read everything he ever puts in front of me. Hahaha. He has a big heart and was raised the right way by a woman who loved him dearly. He has issues but come on, who doesn't? He did make me so mad a few times that I almost threw my kindle and had to be talked down off that ledge lol.

Everly is a spunky one and I think the name he gives her suits her just right. Hard to believe a simple girl from a ranch can make so much trouble in Las Vegas of all places!!! She made Hell a lot more interesting for everyone around.

The "relationship" these two begin with is not your average boy meets girl story. There were bumps in that Vegas road. All the way. But they learned that people can change and you make yourself better everyday. For yourself and for the people in your life and I loved that they found a way to keep things going for the time they had together.

The story was fabulous. The characters are great. The story was different and kept me reading. I have new "friends" from Vegas now lol. I highly recommend you pick this up ASAP!!! I give it.....

I was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland and now I live not far from my birth place in Perry Hall, Maryland. I have two teenage daughters and a man that keep me busy when I'm not working full-time as a Certified Medical Coder. I'm an avid reader and I love all genre of romantic fiction from historical to contemporary to paranormal. Sleeping has always been a problem for me so most nights I can be found in the living room reading or writing instead of in bed like the rest of the world. I don't watch television. It's not a conscious decision, it just never occurs to me to turn it on when I have books to read and writing to do. It can actually be a hazard, because I never know what the weather will be until I look outside and I have to rely on my kids and coworkers for local and world news. I love creating the characters you love and love to hate. My characters remind me of people I know and people I wish I had never known.

Westminster, Maryland book signing!

This past Saturday, I had a signing at the Westminster, Maryland Public Library! It was awesome!!! Thanks in large part to the librarian, Arlene! It was called "Local Reads". They are featuring a litany of local authors every Saturday. I was lucky enough to be one of them!

Here's the view from outside

When participating in a signing, always have a friend surprise you the way one of my besties, Montlake author, Cat Miller did by showing up!

Always take fun pictures, (featuring the horrendous duck-face) when at a book signing!

Podiums. Podiums are important to speak, and they are fabulous for your friends to take pictures of you standing away from them ;)

Candy. Candy is ALWAYS great to get people's attention, or to divert from the fact that you are not the greatest at public speaking ;)

Make sure to bring things OTHER than books to sign.

Of course, bring books!

Shiny objects to distract people from your horrendous speaking abilities ;) (Thank you, Danielle's Dazzling Designs!)

Make sure that you bring a sign up sheet for your street team!

And, if all else fails... bring cute kids. People LOVE kids! (Thanks Sam and Monkey) Notice his hat? He's moms' personal security when his daddy is not around ;)

The hubs took the following two pictures after the signing :) Love you babe!

Needless to say, I had a blast! Thank you to all of you!!!

As always, until next time...

Next Big Thing Blog Hop 12/26/2012

1. What is the working title of your book?

At the moment, I am working on the second full length book the Moon Coven Series, Conversion.

2. Where did the idea for the book come from?

This particular series began as a dream, however I incorporated a little of my own Irish family heritage in the mix, and there you are.

3. What genre does your book fall under?

This series falls under the Young Adult/New Adult.

4. Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

I could totally see Leighton Meestor as Lilyann Moon and Alden Ehrenreich as her vampire, Mason Shaw.

5. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

This is a story about the adversities a family can overcome when they stick together, only with a supernatural twist.

6. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

As of this moment, The Moon Coven Series is self-published.

7. How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

It usually takes me about two (2) weeks for the shorts, and 4 months to write the full length novels.

8. What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

I really can't compare this series to another, because of the unique quality of the story.

9. Who or What inspired you to write this book?

My parents at first. My mom passed away the day after my birthday in 2001 from Breast Cancer. That event was life shattering. I almost gave up on everything. My husband and were talking one night, and he said, "What would your mom think? The fact that you want to be a writer, but you're not doing it." That was all the prodding it took.

10. What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

I enjoy the supernatural element of books. So, in my books... no one is exempt from being touched by the paranormal, and no one is guaranteed to make it to the end, not even my main characters.
