Author Rose Shababy

11990612_444179732432411_1703187875857345951_n
Rose Shababy and her family reside in eastern Washington State. Rose grew up in the Northwest but swears she's going to move to warmer climates someday. She's claimed this for over 20 years, however, and has yet to move more than 75 miles away from her mother.
Rose has a deep love of all things Star Trek and yearns to travel the heavens, as well as an intense desire to be bitten by a radioactive spider. Unfortunately she sucks at science and math so she hasn't been able bring her dreams to life, instead living vicariously through books, comics, television and film. She hopes to someday make a million dollars so she can afford to buy her way to the international space station, but she'd settle for being able to fly around the world and leap tall buildings in a single bound.
Rose also loves to cook and worked for years in a gourmet Italian grocery and deli where she learned to hone her skills. She prepares culinary masterpieces for her family, but fervently wishes the dishes would wash themselves. Especially now that her dishwashers/children are nearly grown and only one still lives at home.
Rose likes to use her free time wisely. For instance, she likes to daydream, will often read for hours until she falls asleep on the couch with an electric blanket and a warm tabby cat curled up on her hip, as well as spending cozy weekend days watching Syfy movies like Sharknado and Mega Piranha.
If Rose were a cartoon animal, she'd prefer to be a wise old owl or a sleek and sexy jaguar, but in reality she'd probably be a myopic mole with coke-bottle glasses.

Author Biography
Author Bio: Desiree DeOrto is a mother of four adorable little hellions. When she's not busy wiping noses, stopping toddler WWIII, cooking, or cleaning she can be found creating complex characters in believable worlds, throwing confetti, or causing general mayhem. Desiree believes in the power of words, and works hard to create an escape from reality through her stories.

CENTER RING: A DARK CIRCUS NOVEL

Fear runs rampant, horror comes alive, and an ancient curse comes to light in the Dark Circus.

As the star of the show, Candace is trapped between what she knows and what her mind demands her heart to see.
She was raised knowing that when it comes to the Circus, nothing is what it seemed, but even some things were too terrifying for her to believe.

The cards are stacked against her, and the stage is set. As time begins to run out a new show arises, one that brings evil to life.
When she steps into the Center Ring, Candace understands that she'll never be able to turn back. The only certainty she holds is that she will die, but how is what the Tarot cards refuse to show.

Thrust into solving the mystery of her impending death she knows that only The Fool would wait for someone else to save her. But when you don't know who she can trust, how can she hope to save herself?

GENERATION X: THE RISING

The Elder Race was a story told around campfires. Aliens, monsters, mad men. Those who believed were called insane, but they were right. They came from space, the seas, and below the earth. Turns out they were waiting, patiently waiting all this time. For what, no one knew, until now. They’re coming for what they think is rightfully theirs, the half-breeds that are part human, part Elder.

Once The Rising began, those who were different were gathered. Separated from the life they knew, those they loved, and moved into camps where they were tested and given the choice. But for Elizabeth, there was no choice at all. They meant to make super soldiers out of them. What they discovered instead was something that no one ever expected.

Sometimes monsters aren’t the things you can’t see, but rather, they’re the weapons of your own creation. When you’re part Elder, and part human, it’s hard to see which side of you is the true hero, and which side is the monster. Everything Elizabeth thought she knew about herself and the world around her is changing, but will she be able to get through The Rising alive? Or will she become what the Government wants her to be: The ultimate weapon.

THE PROPHECY: DIVINITY STONE BOOK ONE

*** WARNING***
Rated 17+ due to language and sexual content

The people of Shiloh, Virginia thought it was just a story. A legend to keep children from misbehaving. A challenge to prove you have courage. What they didn't know was that it was real. All of it was real.

When Starlette McKinley moved from the sparkling lights of LA to the sleepy town of Shiloh, she didn't know that she would be the catalyst. She didn't know that the rage and energy pulsing through her would be the key to unleashing an unsurmountable power that would either be the saving of mankind, or its destruction.

The blood will run, and the prophecy will be revealed. But will she be able to overcome the insurmountable odds? Or will she succumb to the energy within, welcoming the darkness that has become her only friend.

THE DIVINE: DIVINITY STONE BOOK TWO

The legend has become reality, even if the people of Shiloh, Virginia don’t know it yet.

Starlette McKinley had moved across the US only to find that the darkness raging inside of her wasn’t something of her own creation. It wasn’t something that could be medically treated by psychiatrists or any type of medication. The darkness was her power, and it was going to stay.

When she accepts that the greatest threat of all lies within herself, she will have to choose: Push away all those that she loves in order to keep them safe, or keep them near and witness their deaths.

Only through the help of The Divine will she be able to face what is to come. But at what cost? What sacrifice will The Divine demand as payment?

Desiree also wears another hat... that of graphic designer and artist. She has multiple pre-made covers up for sale on her artist page, found here. She also does custom work, and let me just tell you it is AH-mazing! She is actually in the process of doing a few covers for me now :) So check her out!

Desi will also be attending the Once Upon a Book Author Signing and Happily ever after ball 8/12-8/13 2016. For more information on this event please to click here.

Beary Tales

Once upon a time, something wicked was woven. A magic formed by darkness and pain, a magic that only the victim of a broken heart could have created.

The death of her one true love has forced Goldalynn to use dark magic. Determined to bring him back she discovers she must acquire the pelts of three bears under the light of the blue moon to fulfill the spell.

The blue moon has risen and the three bears are caged, awaiting the fate of Goldalynn’s deadly spell. But, their cries for help were heard across the magical realms and their Fairy God Uncle has been called. A collision of spells, magic dark and light create a curse, a curse that turns the bears fur into soft skin and their paws into delicate arms and legs… a curse that turns them human.

The girls are now the charges of their Fairy God Uncle until they no longer need him. Not knowing what to call them, he gives them the most important part of their human identities … their names, Katya, Nita, and Leilanni. With his help, these three bears in human bodies journey through the lands of modern fairy tales trying to find a way to break the curse.

This dark fairy tale is not the book your mother read you when tucking you in at night, you won’t find a fairy tale princess who needs a rescue, but there might be a prince or three in this world. Find out as Beary Tales takes you on a magically twisted adventure.

I just got done listening to Beary Tales on Audible and of coarse I own the ebook so I read along because I could. Haha. I haven't listened to many books yet. This is still kinda new to me. I loved the narrators voice. So calm and soothing yet she kept my attention, which is hard to do, and I really enjoyed it.

For a book that has multiple authors that I'm already familiar with, I thought for sure I'd notice when the writing would switch from one author to another but I couldn't! They really brought their amazing story telling talent together seamlessly! The characters were funny and developed into very likable people. The guys that the girls meet along the way added something extra to the fairy tales I grew up knowing. The twist in the story kept me begging for more and I was wondering how it would all fit since I could see it was almost to the end.....well I can't wait to see what's planned for the next book because of coarse they left me with a CLIFFHANGER!! Who am I kidding, I love cliffhangers! Lol. I give this book 5 handbags. I almost forgot about dinner completely and I got little sleep. It was so worth it! I recommend this for adults and maybe mature teens btw.

Author Bio
A married mother with 3 children who works part-time as a IMC nurse, I soon found myself with an a lot of extra time on my hand when my youngest started school 2 years ago. I considered going back to college and getting my master's degree for a minute(literally) but quickly decided that was not the path that was right for me.

So what to do with all this free time? Take up a hobby of course. Only needlepoint and crocheting aren't really my thing. Then the idea hit me, write a story! I have always had a wild imagination, and one character in particular had been rolling around in my mind since I was in high school.

The start was slow. However, little by little the story began to build and the further along I progressed the more excited I became. Once finished I decided to let a few people read my story, which had ended up being over 300 pages long! That was one of the hardest things I have ever done. It felt like I was exposing a side of myself that no one else knew about and the thought that they might not like it, or that they would think I was totally crazy, scared me to death.

I turned out to be pleasantly surprised, they loved it. And more and more people began to give me positive feedback. Now K: The Awakening is available on Amazon for all to enjoy. The second installment, Linked, will be released by Anchor Group Publishing in April of 2016 and the third is already in progress. So please check it out and if you enjoy it leave a review so it can find its way to more people!!

My Review of Cursed by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Dying sucks - and high school senior Ember McWilliams knows firsthand. After a fatal car accident, her gifted little sister brought her back. Now anything Ember touches dies. And that, well, really blows. Ember operates on a no-touch policy with all living things - including boys. When Hayden Cromwell shows up, quoting Oscar Wilde and claiming her curse is a gift, she thinks he's a crazed cutie. But when he tells her he can help control it, she's more than interested. There's just one catch: Ember has to trust Hayden's adopted father, a man she's sure has sinister reasons for collecting children with abilities even weirder than hers. But when Ember learns the accident that turned her into a freak may not have been an accident at all, she's not sure who to trust. Someone wanted her dead, and the closer she gets to the truth, the closer she is to losing not only her heart, but her life. For real this time.

My Review

I'm not really sure how to approach this review, and that's a first for me. I enjoyed the storyline and characters. They were well thought out and executed. I guess I'm kind of hung up on the ending. There was something lacking in the "Happily Ever After" effect. I don't want to give spoilers, but I will say that Hayden is definitely a new book boyfriend for me, but didn't quite make it to hubby status. Overall, I would definitely recommend Cursed to all YA Fantasy readers.

My Review of Seeress by Ednah Walters

I love Torin St. James...
I need his strength…
But someone from his past wants me dead.

Raine Cooper is certain of two things: her love for Torin St. James and her destiny to be a powerful seeress. But when she starts having premonitions, they are unclear and disturbing. Worse, they involve Torin. With her mother gone, her father dying, and her best friend in Hel, she is not sure who to talk to.

But when the visions become more personal and she foresees her future with Torin threatened by someone from his past, Raine becomes desperate for answers. Just her luck two new students arrive at her school and they seem to have answers. When with them, her powers are enhanced and her visions become clear. There is only one problem: Torin forbids Raine to see the two girls.

Can their love survive without trust?

Release Day for Chained by Elise Marion

Chained (Chained Trilogy Book 1)
Author: Elise Marion
Genre: Medieval/Fantasy Romance
Word Count: 90,000
Publisher: Marion Press
Cover Art by: Najla Qamber Designs (www.najlaqamberdesigns.com)

Blurb
House Toustain … House Maignart … two royal houses once embroiled in a bloody feud … Thirty years of peace now broken in an instant …

Sir Caden Maignart has been captured, beaten, locked in a dungeon, and wrongfully accused of kidnapping and oath-breaking. Determined to free himself and his men, and clear his besmirched name, Caden does not count on the willful nature of his captor, Lady Gwendolyn Toustain, the daughter of the man who was once his father’s mortal enemy. After several attempts at escape, the lady orders him bound and chained to a wall in her chambers—where he will remain under her personal guard at all times and kept from conspiring with his men. While the lady's high-handedness infuriates him, Caden cannot deny that everything else about her drives him to distraction. Forced into close proximity with her, Caden soon finds it hard to remember his mission of escape.

When Lady Gwendolyn of House Toustain first lays eyes on her prisoner, one thing about him is abundantly clear: Sir Caden of Daleraia is a dangerous man. Yet, she must show him no fear. The captured band of knights from Daleraia are her only clue in the mystery surrounding the disappearance of House Toustain’s sons, and it falls to Lady Gwen to seek justice. Is this kidnapping merely the ploy of mercenaries out for a ransom? Or has Sir Caden acted on the order of the High Lord of Daleraia and broken the peace? As she searches for the answers, she never expects the surge of passion that ignites between herself and her prisoner. The longer he remains in her clutches, the more Gwen realizes that though she has him chained, she is the one who has been captured.

Excerpt:
Kneeling in front of him, she forced herself to meet his gaze. “You are quite a rabble-rouser, aren’t you?” she said gently, sympathy pricking her as she observed his beaten and bloody face up close.
He smirked despite his split lip. “Aye, wench. Did you think you could keep me in your cells forever?”
Gwen shook her head slowly. “No, I suppose not. What am I to do with you, Daleraian?”
His lips split into a blinding smile, and for a moment, Gwen was taken aback. Despite his battered face, she had to grudgingly admit that the man had magnetism. His smile was disarming. “I could think of a few things, wench,” he murmured, his eyes lowering to the neckline of her kirtle.
Gwen’s jaw clenched, but she reminded herself of her vow to remain calm. “My steward thinks I should kill you.”
He scowled. “Your steward sounds like an idiot.”
Espan huffed and stammered in outrage at that, and Gwen stifled a laugh. “He is my advisor, Sir,” she said. “My father’s as well. I heed his council in all things.”
“Heed mine,” he offered. “You don’t want to kill me. To do so would be a grievous error.”
Gwen’s eyebrows raised. “Why?”
“Suffice it to say that if I were gone, Lord Theodric would miss me … enough to send thousands of warriors to Seahaven’s gates.”
“Lord Theodric has already set his forces against Dinasdale. Do not think I have forgotten that.”
The knight’s jaw ticked. “I have already told you, we played no part in the atrocities committed in Heywick.”
Gwen shrugged. “Forgive me if I’m not inclined to release you with only your word as evidence. I need more than that.”
“Then let me go,” he growled, his voice low, “and I will prove it. Keep my men as collateral, and I will return for them when I bring evidence of our innocence.”
“I think not. You’ve been nothing but trouble since you arrived at Seahaven, Sir. I am within my rights to have you executed, but I am not inclined to just yet. You will remain my captive until I am ready to release or ransom you, but you will not return to the dungeons.”
The gaoler snapped to attention at that. “And just where do you s’pose I’m t’ keep him if not in the dungeons?”
Gwen stood and turned to face him. “This prisoner is no longer in your care. You have more than proven your ineptitude where he is concerned. He has nearly escaped you several times, and bested your guards at that.”
Espan stepped forward, his brow furrowed in confusion. “Milady, what are you saying?”
“I want him shackled to that wall, there.”
Espan and the gaoler followed her extended arm and pointing finger. Both men glanced back at her in disbelief. “Milady,” Espan protested. “Surely you do not mean—”
“But I do,” Gwen said brusquely. “My mother always saidthe best way for a woman to see something done, is to do it herself. The Daleraian is now in my guard. I want iron rings installed into that wall immediately. He shall remain under my personal guard, where he cannot conspire with his men to escape. There are no guards for him to assault here … no one here but me.”
Espan stuttered and stammered for a full minute before gaining his composure. “Milady, begging your pardon, but it is hardly proper.”
Gwen’s nostrils flared as she turned on the man. “Am I not castellan here? Do I not speak with the voice of the high lord?”
“A-aye, milady,” Espan sputtered. “You do, but it is my duty to advise you in all things.”
“And so you did,” Gwen said, turning her back on him. “I have made my decision and I will be obeyed. This Daleraian poses no threat to me in irons. In this way, I can be sure that he causes no further harm to our guards, and has no one around him with which to conspire.”
Espan inclined his head humbly, but doubt was still present in his eyes. “I will do whatever you command, milady, you know this.”
“Good,” Gwen said with a curt nod. “Then do as I’ve asked, immediately, and send for Lynet, I have need of her.”
Espan bowed again and retreated quickly, his surcoat swishing around his ankles. Gwen turned on the gaoler next. “Go, and take all but two of your guard with you. I want a watch set up just outside my doors, two sentries on each watch, day and night.”
The gaoler did her bidding as well, departing without protest. With only the two guards standing watch just outside her doors, Gwen was alone with the knight. She knelt before him again, reaching out toward his face. He flinched away, inhaling sharply as her fingers made contact with his jaw.
“Hold still!” Gwen chastised, gripping his chin firmly and forcing him to endure her inspection. “I must know if your face needs to be stitched. You’ve taken quite a beating.”
The Daleraian snorted dryly. “You should see the other men. Five against one, it was hardly a fair fight.”
“No,” Gwen agreed as she gently prodded his injuries, wincing at the large gash torn just above one dark eyebrow. “It was not well done of them.”
His eyes flashed mischievously as she met his gaze. “I meant, not fair to them.”

My Review of Grimnirs by Ednah Walters

**The series number for this book is in chronological order. This is a full-length book of the "Runes" series**

Straight out of the psych ward, Cora just wants her life to be normal. She doesn’t want to see souls or the reapers collecting them. The guy she’s loved from a distance for years moves away without saying goodbye. So yes, she’s nursing a serious heartbreak. It’s no wonder love is the last thing on her mind when Echo storms into her life.

The chemistry between them is mind-blowing.The connection defies logic. Even better, the souls leave her alone when he is around.

Too bad Echo is the poster boy for everything she hates in a guy—hot, beautiful, and cocky. He is also a soul reaper. A Grimnir.
The very beings she wants out of her life. Maybe normal is overrated because Cora wants it all. Answers. Love. A life.

Holy Echo! This series... *fans self*, Hel's Mist this series is going to kill me! I can't eat, sleep, or think... I'm a hot mess. AND, I read the "clean" version! I can't say this enough, this series is an off-the-hook, must-read!

In Grimnirs, Cora gets her very own Immortal and he's a show stopper! Whereas the other books in the Runes Series is told from Raine's POV, Grimnirs is told from Cora's but we get the same cast of amazing characters. The twists and turns in this series has me sitting on the edge of me seat... WITH. EVERY. SINGLE. BOOK!
Off to read Seeress!

My Review of Immortal by Ednah Walters

Nothing can stop Raine Cooper when she wants something...
Raine finally knows that her gorgeous neighbor, Torin St. James, is a legend straight out of Norse mythology, and that her feelings for him are strong. Torin is crazy about Raine too, breaking the one rule he lives by: Never fall for a mortal. The problem is he no longer remembers her, his memories erased by Norns—Norse destiny deities—to punish her for defying them.

So Raine comes up with a plan...
She will make Torin forget his one rule a second time and fall in love with her all over again.
But she quickly learns that well-laid plans do not work when dealing with deities and supernatural beings. Desperate, Raine makes choices that could not only tear her and Torin further apart, but lead to the destruction of everything and everyone she loves

Yes, please, and thank you!
This series just gets better with each book! Just as an aside, I totally blame Ednah for me not getting any work done ;) It's hard to work when you can't put a book down, LOL. The fabulous cast of characters are back and they are snarky, sexy, and naughty as ever.

Just like the first book in the series, Runes the writing was wonderful. I love where the story is going. This series is a fun and easy YA read for all ages to enjoy, and let's not forget my new book husband, TORIN! <3 #TeamTorin

If you haven't started this series yet, you're really missing out.

But by healing her, Torin changes something inside Raine. Now she can’t stop thinking about him. Half the time, she’s not sure whether to fall into his arms or run.

Scared, she sets out to find out what Torin is. But the closer she gets to the truth the more she uncovers something sinister about him. What Torin is goes back to an ancient mythology and Raine is somehow part of it. Not only is she and her friends in danger, she must choose a side, but the wrong choice will cost Raine her life

Wow... just wow! It's not very often that an author, or a story can keep me glued to my kindle (or, in this case, my kindle app on Android) all night long... but Runes by Ednah Walters did!

The writing was fluid, the characters memorable, the storyline original, and hel-lo... there was Torin (A hot supernatural being)! I have already purchased all the books in this series and am flying through them at "Valkyrie" speed. Well done, Ednah!
