A Different Christmas by CM Doporto Monday 11/30

Presents
Title: A Different Christmas, A University Park Series Novella
Release Date: November 30, 2015
Blurb:
The final chapters in Raven and Lexi’s epic love story that began with Opposing Sides.

Having been through hell and back, Raven and Lexi beat the odds stacked against them and came out on the winning side together. For the past several months, Raven’s been working hard to show Lexi he can be the husband she deserves and the father their soon-to-be born twins need. Playing pro-football is proving to be more challenging than they thought.

As the weeks pass and her due date nears, old demons resurface, threatening to destroy what they’ve worked hard to rebuild. The birth of their twins reminds them despite long practice sessions, football games, and the holidays, what’s most important is the greatest gift of all: love.

**This novella takes place before the epilogue in The Winning Side and A Different Side. This is a standalone story, but it is recommended you read the series.**

Excerpt:
I pulled into the park and stopped a few feet shy of the valet stop. Night had set in and the weather was a nice sixty degrees. Perfect for a train ride and a stroll through the park.
“We’re here.” I leaned over and helped Lexi remove the mask.
“Oh wow.” She blinked a few times and looked around. “This is beautiful, Raven.” She peered out the window like kid anxious to run through an amusement park. “Do they always decorate the park with Christmas lights?”
“Yes, Celebration in the Oaks has been a New Orleans’s traditions since I can remember.”
“How fun.”
“I bought us tickets for a train ride, which takes us around the park to see the Christmas lights.”
“Oh that’s perfect.” She smiled and gave me a kiss on the cheek.
“If you’re up to it, we can walk around afterwards. If not, I understand.” I wasn’t sure if she could handle strolling through the park with her big belly. I felt bad for all the weight she was carrying around.
“Exercise is good for me, so I don’t mind.”
“We’ll see how you feel after the train ride.” I pulled forward to the valet porter.
“Okay.”
We got out of the vehicle and walked toward the train station. Festive holiday music played and thousands of lights twinkled in a variety of colors. Some outlined the huge oak trees and others draped the moss-covered cypress trees. Various lighted displays were spread throughout the park creating a magical winter spectacular. Decorated Christmas trees lined the walkway giving it a cozy, intimate feel.
“This reminds me of last year when you took me to downtown Fort Worth and we went ice skating.”
“I know.” I laced my fingers through hers. “This was the weekend we hooked up and you stayed with me.”
Lexi stopped and turned to me. “Oh no…”
“Happy Anniversary, baby.”
She covered her face with her hand. “How could I forget?”
“It’s okay.” I chuckled. “You got a lot going on.”
“Not more than you.” Disappointment laced her beautiful features. “No wonder you gave me the diamond earrings during dinner.” She shook her head. “I thought you were giving me an early Christmas gift. I’m such a loser.”
“No you’re not.” I drew Lexi close to me. “You’re about to give birth to twins. I don’t think that puts you anywhere in the loser category.”
“But I didn’t buy you anything.” Her hands rested on my chest.
My eyes wandered behind her as the deep voices tried to enter my head. Telling me Lexi would never marry me. That she’d never be my wife. That all of this was just temporary. I shook my head and aligned my eyes with her. “There’s only one thing I want from you, Lexi.”
Her gaze tore from mine. “I know. Please be patient with me. Okay?”
I lifted her chin, bringing our gazes together again. “I already told you, I’m not going anywhere.”
“Good. Because I’m not going to let you.” She smiled and then backed away, latching on to my hand. “Come on, let’s go have some fun. I might not be able to ice skate, but we can at least enjoy the lights.”
“You got it, baby.”
We boarded the train for the two-mile ride around the park. We laughed and talked the entire time as we passed the blinking Christmas displays, which included the animated Cajun Night Before Christmas display and the iconic snowman, Mr. Bingle, a New Orleans’ favorite. It was fun and festive and by the smile on Lexi’s face, I knew she was having a good time.
“The lights were beautiful,” Lexi said, as I helped her step off the train. “I’m so glad you thought of this.”
“I wasn’t sure it would be a good idea, since you were so far along.”
She waved off my comment. “I’m pregnant, not handicap.”
“I know, but it can’t be easy lugging around two babies.”
“It’s not.” She huffed. “But it’s only temporary.”
“Thank, God.” I wrapped my arm around her. “Because I miss you lying naked on top of me.”
A soft moan escaped her lips. “I miss that, too.”
“How long do we have to wait?” I cautiously asked.
Her eyes darted to the sky. “I think six weeks, but it might be longer for C-section. I don’t know, but don’t let me forget to ask.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t.” Apparently I wasn’t the only one missing the great sex.
“So, have you decided on the names?” I held up my arm, pointing at my watch. “Times ticking.”
“I know.” Lexi nodded repeatedly. “But this isn’t my decision alone. You have to agree, too.”
“Okay. Then let’s decide tonight.” I spotted a vendor selling coffee and pastries.
“You want something?”
“Do you have to ask?” She winked. “You know my weakness.”

Excerpt  ****WARNING MATURE AUDIENCE****  (Rated R)

I popped the button on his pants and trailed my tongue over the curve of his jaw. “Does it matter? Julian can wait.”

Micah growled and spun me to the dresser, lifting to set me on top. He slapped a palm against the wall above my head, caging me in. Escape, although I didn’t want it, would have been near impossible.

“Don’t even say his name. One day, I’m going to rip out his spinal cord.” The coarse golden hair dusting his jaw rasped against my cheek as he took my mouth in a kiss that sent us both spiraling.

The aggression lurking inside him coalesced. Demanding.Rough. He moved his hands over my body, exploring me as ifwe’d not already memorized every inch of each other earlier that day at the Vault. Mindless to anything except the male body in front of me, I was lost to all reason.

I threaded my fingers through his hair, holding him against me. I stroked my tongue against his, addicted to the taste of him. When I tilted my head to the side, our teeth clanked. Our embrace deepened as he dug his hands into the soft flesh at my hips and slid me close. He ground his body against mine and devoured me.

The demon lurking under the surface made me yearn for it to claim me. Never breaking the kiss, Micah moved the material covering my breast aside and cupped the tender weight. A sharp spike of need ran straight to my core. His hands were callused, the perfect texture moving across my sensitive nipple. The sudden need pulsing through me was going to tear me in half.

When he released my mouth, I gasped for breath. The sensations he caused had me clutching the corded muscles at his back. Featherlight, such a contrast to the frenzied need to mate surging between us, his lips moved across my cheek to my neck.

“I want your hair down.”

He tugged at a few things and within seconds, my painstakingly created up-do fell apart. He ran his hand through my curls. The gentle touch turned forceful. Forming a fist, he tugged, eliciting another needy moan when my head snapped to the side allowing the access he desired.
He nipped the scar on the side of my throat, the imprint of his teeth. I trembled from head to toe.

“Julian may get you tonight, but it’s me who you’ll smell like. My come inside your body. My marks on your flesh. I’ll make sure you remember the feel of my cock with every single step you take.”

House Toustain … House Maignart … two royal houses once embroiled in a bloody feud … Thirty years of peace now broken in an instant …

Sir Caden Maignart has been captured, beaten, locked in a dungeon, and wrongfully accused of kidnapping and oath-breaking. Determined to free himself and his men, and clear his besmirched name, Caden does not count on the willful nature of his captor, Lady Gwendolyn Toustain, the daughter of the man who was once his father’s mortal enemy. After several attempts at escape, the lady orders him bound and chained to a wall in her chambers—where he will remain under her personal guard at all times and kept from conspiring with his men. While the lady's high-handedness infuriates him, Caden cannot deny that everything else about her drives him to distraction. Forced into close proximity with her, Caden soon finds it hard to remember his mission of escape.

When Lady Gwendolyn of House Toustain first lays eyes on her prisoner, one thing about him is abundantly clear: Sir Caden of Daleraia is a dangerous man. Yet, she must show him no fear. The captured band of knights from Daleraia are her only clue in the mystery surrounding the disappearance of House Toustain’s sons, and it falls to Lady Gwen to seek justice. Is this kidnapping merely the ploy of mercenaries out for a ransom? Or has Sir Caden acted on the order of the High Lord of Daleraia and broken the peace? As she searches for the answers, she never expects the surge of passion that ignites between herself and her prisoner. The longer he remains in her clutches, the more Gwen realizes that though she has him chained, she is the one who has been captured.

Excerpt:
Kneeling in front of him, she forced herself to meet his gaze. “You are quite a rabble-rouser, aren’t you?” she said gently, sympathy pricking her as she observed his beaten and bloody face up close.
He smirked despite his split lip. “Aye, wench. Did you think you could keep me in your cells forever?”
Gwen shook her head slowly. “No, I suppose not. What am I to do with you, Daleraian?”
His lips split into a blinding smile, and for a moment, Gwen was taken aback. Despite his battered face, she had to grudgingly admit that the man had magnetism. His smile was disarming. “I could think of a few things, wench,” he murmured, his eyes lowering to the neckline of her kirtle.
Gwen’s jaw clenched, but she reminded herself of her vow to remain calm. “My steward thinks I should kill you.”
He scowled. “Your steward sounds like an idiot.”
Espan huffed and stammered in outrage at that, and Gwen stifled a laugh. “He is my advisor, Sir,” she said. “My father’s as well. I heed his council in all things.”
“Heed mine,” he offered. “You don’t want to kill me. To do so would be a grievous error.”
Gwen’s eyebrows raised. “Why?”
“Suffice it to say that if I were gone, Lord Theodric would miss me … enough to send thousands of warriors to Seahaven’s gates.”
“Lord Theodric has already set his forces against Dinasdale. Do not think I have forgotten that.”
The knight’s jaw ticked. “I have already told you, we played no part in the atrocities committed in Heywick.”
Gwen shrugged. “Forgive me if I’m not inclined to release you with only your word as evidence. I need more than that.”
“Then let me go,” he growled, his voice low, “and I will prove it. Keep my men as collateral, and I will return for them when I bring evidence of our innocence.”
“I think not. You’ve been nothing but trouble since you arrived at Seahaven, Sir. I am within my rights to have you executed, but I am not inclined to just yet. You will remain my captive until I am ready to release or ransom you, but you will not return to the dungeons.”
The gaoler snapped to attention at that. “And just where do you s’pose I’m t’ keep him if not in the dungeons?”
Gwen stood and turned to face him. “This prisoner is no longer in your care. You have more than proven your ineptitude where he is concerned. He has nearly escaped you several times, and bested your guards at that.”
Espan stepped forward, his brow furrowed in confusion. “Milady, what are you saying?”
“I want him shackled to that wall, there.”
Espan and the gaoler followed her extended arm and pointing finger. Both men glanced back at her in disbelief. “Milady,” Espan protested. “Surely you do not mean—”
“But I do,” Gwen said brusquely. “My mother always saidthe best way for a woman to see something done, is to do it herself. The Daleraian is now in my guard. I want iron rings installed into that wall immediately. He shall remain under my personal guard, where he cannot conspire with his men to escape. There are no guards for him to assault here … no one here but me.”
Espan stuttered and stammered for a full minute before gaining his composure. “Milady, begging your pardon, but it is hardly proper.”
Gwen’s nostrils flared as she turned on the man. “Am I not castellan here? Do I not speak with the voice of the high lord?”
“A-aye, milady,” Espan sputtered. “You do, but it is my duty to advise you in all things.”
“And so you did,” Gwen said, turning her back on him. “I have made my decision and I will be obeyed. This Daleraian poses no threat to me in irons. In this way, I can be sure that he causes no further harm to our guards, and has no one around him with which to conspire.”
Espan inclined his head humbly, but doubt was still present in his eyes. “I will do whatever you command, milady, you know this.”
“Good,” Gwen said with a curt nod. “Then do as I’ve asked, immediately, and send for Lynet, I have need of her.”
Espan bowed again and retreated quickly, his surcoat swishing around his ankles. Gwen turned on the gaoler next. “Go, and take all but two of your guard with you. I want a watch set up just outside my doors, two sentries on each watch, day and night.”
The gaoler did her bidding as well, departing without protest. With only the two guards standing watch just outside her doors, Gwen was alone with the knight. She knelt before him again, reaching out toward his face. He flinched away, inhaling sharply as her fingers made contact with his jaw.
“Hold still!” Gwen chastised, gripping his chin firmly and forcing him to endure her inspection. “I must know if your face needs to be stitched. You’ve taken quite a beating.”
The Daleraian snorted dryly. “You should see the other men. Five against one, it was hardly a fair fight.”
“No,” Gwen agreed as she gently prodded his injuries, wincing at the large gash torn just above one dark eyebrow. “It was not well done of them.”
His eyes flashed mischievously as she met his gaze. “I meant, not fair to them.”

My Review of NEW RELEASE-- Savage Possession by Belinda Boring

Growing up, Darcy knew that life would be filled with challenges and tough decisions, but none so difficult as the one that would alter her future forever. Given the choice between losing Mason or becoming a vampire, Darcy risks the overwhelming threat of insanity, and places her destiny, her hopes and dreams, in the hands of Devlin. When she survives the conversion and shows how truly strong she is, everyone thinks that the worst is behind them. It’s time to get back to normal—or their new normal—and live happily ever after.

But danger still lurks within the shadows—both in Woodside Hollow, the supernatural community, and within Darcy. Even though she looks fine, she seems “altered” to those closest to her, something beyond the expected consequences of her dual nature. With reports of dark rituals and blood sacrifices being performed, the Council has their hands filled trying to solve that mystery, leaving Mason scrambling to find out what’s wrong with his mate.

Will the imbalance warring within Darcy eventually settle, or will her decision to become part vampire-part werewolf lead to a SAVAGE POSSESSION?

My Review
5 Owls
Holy cliffhangers, Batman! Belinda Boring is a very wicked Queen of Swoon, LOL! I have loved the Mystic Wolves series from the beginning, and it only gets better with each new book! When I read Savage Possession I was in the middle of a really bad medical issue and should have been sleeping... NO WAY! I had to see what was going to happen with Darcy. The twists and turns woven by Belinda in this book kept me up all night, and when I finally hit the last page, I freaked. Bels... you are killing me! This whole series is a MUST READ. I'll tell you this, as an author myself, my time is very limited... but I will always MAKE time for a Mystic Wolves book. #truestory
Belinda Boring's books should be on every booklover's bookshelf, they're a staple!

My review of One Tiny Secret by Adam Kunz

Blurb
**Mature Content Warning** Recommended for 17+ due to language, violence, and sexual content.

Just one tiny secret has the potential to ruin everything.

Being the daughter of the sheriff in a small town like Holden Ridge means that eighteen-year-old Danielle “Dani” Marks’ life is under constant surveillance. She’s made a habit of staying under the radar by being a floater among social circles at school, which has kept her out of trouble—until now.

After a missing persons case stirs up the entire town, Dani finds herself caught right in the middle of the scandal. When she’s labeled a possible suspect, things quickly go from bad to worse. The sudden return of her old flame, Parker Reed, manages to make her whole situation even more complicated.

When an elusive unknown person begins to blackmail Dani by threatening to reveal her deepest secrets, Dani refuses to play along. That is, until the person’s actions take a violent turn. Holden Ridge begins to lose its sense of quaint town security, and Dani is caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse.

Who can she trust when anyone around her could be a suspect?

One thing’s for certain though: Never underestimate the power of one tiny secret.

My Review
While I've never been big on reading mystery/thrillers in the past... I'm a fan now! One Tiny Secret is a fast paced read that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together. Just when your mind processes one twist in the story, author Adam Kunz throws another in your path.
I've read a few reviews where the reader figured it out within the first few chapters, but for me... that wasn't the case at all! The person I thought was behind the crazytrain our main character, Dani finds herself on wasn't the person! Holy awesome-balls! I loved this storyline, and the characters! While there is a romance in this story, it's not the main storyline and for a story like this I enjoyed that!Great job, Adam!
